Teachers and students RecognizedThe greatest fulfilment for a teacher is to be able to impart timeless values to his/her students. That deserves to be recognized.

Every year, the Rotary Club of Quezon City, recognizes educators from public schools in Quezon City who have made a difference to the lives of their students. The awardees were selected by the students themselves through the essay writing competition where they wrote about their most favorite teacher. This school year 2020-2021, the Awarding of Teachers is now on its 5th Year!

1st Place Essay of Kim Michael Galsim:
COVID-19 pandemic had taken so many lives, and depression/anxiety become the trending topic throughout the world.
It was June this year that me and my mother have undergone COVID-19 testing as a health protocol because one of our relatives living in the same house had tested COVID positive and was brought to COVID-19 facility. After 3 days the result of our swab tests Antigen and RTPCR Test were both positive. We were shocked and afraid. Even though we were asymptomatic we experience discrimination from our neighbors and relatives in our compound it was a sad experience. Me and my mother were brought to COVID Facility. We stayed there for 10 days but that situation did not hamper my studies.
I brought with me my tablet to attend my online classes and my teacher keeps on reminding me to study hard amidst our situation in the facility especially Ma’am Mary Ann D. Cepeda. She became a part of how I change my view in life during this health crisis. She thought me to be grateful in everything I have and to cherish the most important things in my life like my family, relatives, friends, and most importantly myself. Rather than just teaching the lesson, she helped me exceed to my capabilities and that despite this pandemic, I can do more and be the better version of myself.
Attending to virtual classes thought me to get out of my comfort zone and be more confident with myself and answering modules thought me responsibility. I thank God for giving me family and my beloved teacher that will help me excel even during the pandemic.

2nd Place Essay of Elijah Frederick Diaz:
The year 2020 is a life-changing moment for me. After experiencing seven years of face-to-face schooling, that year was the first time I had to do online learning. The experience was challenging, but one teacher made me enjoy that unusual set-up; she is Mrs. Lailani Quitong.
Ma'am Quitong was my Araling Panlipunan teacher last year. At first, seeing her teach made me nervous because of the way she talked. My first impression of her is that she is strict. She demanded that her students must be prepared during her class. Her time is only 30 minutes, but it feels like an eternity when you are not ready for her discussion.
Her attitude towards teaching made me exert extra effort to do an advanced reading on the subject. Aside from reading my modules, I also watched videos related to the topic to be discussed for our next meeting. By doing those, I never realized until then that I enjoy Araling Panlipunan. Thanks to her, who told us Philippine History like it was a TV series. From Lapu-Lapu to the Spanish colonization and until the time of Jose Rizal, I never failed to miss the weekly topics like each episode of my favorite series on Netflix.
I had never seen my AP teacher personally nor heard of her name before she became my teacher. But without her knowing it, she made me realize that online learning is not dull when teachers like her can make it exciting and fun.

3rd Place Essay of Mhica Ella Bagtas:
Throughout the entire of students’ life, there is a teacher. Teachers mold us to be successful achievers. They are role models or influencer to students. Their goal is to encourage students and provide maximum knowledge at all times. They continuously inspire and push us beyond the limits to pursue.
In this time of pandemic teachers, and students need to stick together. They need to have a good relationship. As class started I was amazed by one of my teachers named Rudito Cagatin. He already shows a connection to us. He makes us more interested in MAPEH because of his skills in teaching. Most students think that this subject is boring or useless but because of him, you will see its importance especially in this pandemic time. In every class meeting, he shared Bible verses, which made me more captivated. I become more curious and I was encouraged to learn it. He also shares video of Bible verses on social media that made me sometimes became LSS (last song syndrome). I think he became one of the instruments from God so that I will be more religious and to be closer to God especially in this trying time.
The relationship and connection of teachers to students have a big impact during this pandemic. They do all their best to be good influential people to their students’ life. A teacher is not only a teacher; they can be anyone who will always be in our side at all times.
